Meanwhile, over in the AL East

ImageThe Astros were off today; game two of their series with the Rangers resumes Tuesday. That gave Houston native and Astros fan Dr. Jon Yokubaitis — here with his son, Alex, and their lunch  — a chance to scout the Evil Empire today from the rail of the third-base upper deck of Yankee Stadium.

Their seatmate for Opening Day was New York journalist Sarah Yokubaitis, who reports: “Shocked at how few Red Sox fans are here.” The Yankees’ pitching didn’t show up, either — C.C.’s location went on Sabathical as the Bosox bombed the Bombers, 8-2.

The hometown fans were treated to a patchwork lineup that featured Jayson Nix, Ben Francisco and Eduardo Nunez; with a combined 0-for-7 with 5 whiffs, their bats were as silent as the crowd. Lou Piniella threw out the ceremonial first pitch and was signed to pinch-hit in the seventh.
